Why couples might love it

Spiritfarer is mostly single-player, but co-op lets a second player join as Daffodil, a cat who helps with chores around the boat. It suits a partner who’d rather help than lead.

The stories deal with grief and memory in a mature way. Playing them together gives you a lot to talk about afterwards.

What you actually do together

  • Build and decorate houses on your boat
  • Cook, garden, fish and craft gifts for your passengers
  • Talk through each passenger’s story as you sail

Best for

  • Story lovers
  • A partner who prefers a helper role
  • Slow evenings

Things to know before playing

  • It deals with death and grief.
  • Player two (the cat) has fewer things to do than player one.
  • Expect 25–30 hours.

Our verdict

One of the best-looking games around. Better as a story you share than a true co-op game, but worth it.
