Made for exactly two

It Takes Two

A co-op adventure that can only be played by two people, about a couple whose marriage is falling apart. It’s funny, inventive and very satisfying to finish together.

Why couples might love it

Each chapter gives you different abilities. One of you gets a hammer, the other gets nails, and the puzzles only work when you combine them. Expect a lot of “wait, jump now.”

It keeps changing its ideas. Just as you get used to one mechanic it moves on to the next, from a war between squirrels and wasps to a trip into space, so it never turns into a grind.

What you actually do together

  • Solve puzzles that need both abilities at once
  • Hunt down the hidden competitive mini-games
  • Swap who leads depending on the chapter
  • Put up with Dr. Hakim, the talking relationship book

Best for

  • Couples who want a story with a beginning and an end
  • Date nights spread over a few weeks
  • Players who have used a controller before

Things to know before playing

  • It opens with a couple heading for divorce. The tone is warm overall, but not fluffy.
  • One scene with a toy elephant is famously grim.
  • Around 12–14 hours, and it asks for more skill than most cozy games.

Our verdict

The best story-driven co-op game for couples. Not cozy in the blanket sense, but you’ll remember a lot of it.
